Drivin'
03:22
|
|||
Drivin', drivin', drivin'
Baby, baby, baby
I love the way it feels
With your hand in mine
The other on the wheel
Missed that sparkle in your eyes
Ooo When you’re laughing
Laughing, laughing, laughing
Away these blues
Those same old stories
Made by me and you
Ain’t worried ‘bout nothin’
Knowin’ you’re my baby
Darling, Darling, Darling
Let’s run away
No more talking or thinking
‘Til another day
Throw our burdens down for now
And let’s start driving
No need to pack or plan
Throw away the map
No more nine to five’in
Let’s go my darlin
Monday, Monday, Monday’s
Coming soon
Better turn this rig around
Stop howling at the moon
Let’s be quiet on the way
And leave room for wishing
Wishing, wishing, wishing
Every day
Could be just like this
In every single way
Lots of loving and laughing
And hardly any talking
Darling, Darling, Darling
Let’s run away
No more talking or thinking
Until another day
Throw our burdens down for now
And let’s start driving
Drivin’, Drivin’, Drivin’
Down the road
Who cares where we go
Without a heavy load
No need to pack or plan
Throw away the map
No more nine-to-fivein’
Let’s go my darling
No more nine-to-fivein’
Let's go my darling

Ashes to Ashes
03:47
|
|||
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Everyone is leaving now that the mines have all gone bust
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
She asks me if I’m leaving too and I tell her that I must.
All of our pretty things
Are covered up in rust
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Bone on bone, hand to hand
We scour the horizon for a sign of dry land
Hand to hand, bone on bone
We bite and claw each other for something we can own
All of our pretty dreams
Have started to combust
Ashes and ashes, dust and dust
Round and round, the wheel it turns and we all fall down
There’s nothing can be done to save my home town
We all fall down
Eye to eye, skin to skin
Another politician tells me you gotta lose to win
Eye for an eye, sin for sin
The mountain cried when it cracked inside and the waters all poured in
All of our pretty ways
Have broken the trust (leaving)
Ashes and ashes, dust and dust
Yeah, all of our petty ways
Have broken the trust
Ashes and ashes, dust and dust
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Everyone is leaving now this town has all gone bust.

Jonah and the Whale
04:39
|
|||
Jonah heard a voice come whistling down the plain, it said “Get thee away.”
“You’re in my service now and that’s where you’ll stay.”
His direction was east but he went west instead
Said “I’ll never be your servant, I’d rather be dead.”
If you flee the Lord, you know you’re always on your own
No going home again
When you pick up the sword be sure your aim is true
Like you want done unto you
On a steamer heading out of San Diego Jonah lay awake
He heard that storm coming o’er the water to show him his mistake.
All the other sailors pleaded with their makers but Jonah wouldn’t cry
Without a word he dove into the darkness hoping he would die.
Holed up in the belly of the whale
We hold on for the ending of the tale
For another chance to succeed or to fail
Ooo
On his clothes a smell of fish, in his mouth a taste of sand Jonah heard that voice a second time
“Your mountain is waiting for you—better start to climb.”
This time Jonah set a course for Nineveh or farther East knowing he’d be wise to heed the call
For there’s no escaping for Jonah, no escaping for us all.
When we’re holed up in the belly of the whale
Do we hold on to succeed or to fail?
Or do we listen to that voice and set sail?
Ooo
Jonah heard a voice come whistling down the plain, it said “Get thee away.”
“You’re in my service now and that’s where you’ll stay.”

Locomotive
02:57
|
|||
Click, click, clack -
Hear us rattling down the track
Let's bring this sucker up to speed
And see what she can take
Til we burn, burn, burn
And that engine really churns.
I see them twists and turns ahead,
But I've lost the will to brake.
So we'll drive this horse a couple hours
Or maybe til we die;
These locomotive virtues
Got me aching for a ride.
Can't barely see the path ahead
Or recall what's gone by
This smoke and steam is going to my brain.
Blow, blow, blow,
Sound that whistle as we go;
One hundred miles an hour still
I yearn for something more.
So shovel that coal
And let the heat just take its toll.
My train demands your everything;
That's all I'm asking for.
So we'll drive this train a couple years
And maybe pick up pace
The speed is my addiction,
The track my saving grace.
And now I see the path ahead,
I recognize this place,
But this smoke and steam is driving me insane
Scream, baby, scream
As we both blow off some steam.
What used to be our special night
Has turned into our weekly fight
Now sigh, mama, sigh
Y'know our boiler's running dry
Our motivation vaporized
Our love drifts out of sight
Now we drove this horse into the ground
And all we’ve got to show
Is locomotive virtue
And some baggage left in tow.
The best laid tracks have gone awry
So pack your things and go
No seats left on this Godforsaken train

I Wish I was a Bird
02:55
|
|||
If I was a bird, I’d fly away
If I was a bird, I’d fly away
Through the clear winter sky, I’d keep you in my eye
But if I was a bird, I’d fly away
If I was a bear, I’d come to you
If I was a bear, I’d come to you
I’d come to you, you’d know just what to do
If I was bear, I’d come to you
If I was a fish, I’d make a wish
If I was a fish, I’d make my wish
In the deep blue sea, no one could find me
If I was fish, that’s what I’d wish
But I ain’t a bird nor a bear
I ain’t no fish, and I don’t care
I’m just a man, feat of clay, heart of sand
Bound to the earthen dusty land
Bound to the earthen dusty land
No one knows just how to live
No one knows what’s to forgive
In the world’s deep heart, it’s breaking all apart
So I’ll be a bird and fly away
So I’ll be a bird and fly away
So I’ll be a bird and fly away

Asking for America
04:25
|
|||
The train don’t run here anymore
Not since back before the war
When all the street lamps were lit with kerosene
The valley floated in between
Heaven and earth
The kids still walk home after school
And church on Sunday’s still the rule
And summer sunsets still set the clouds aflame
In every blush I see your name
First and last
But the men can still be cruel
They lay out drinking by the pool
And lie in wait, for someone they can tame
And everyone of them’s the same
First to last
But you don’t belong to anyone, not any small town son, not least of all to me
All your roads lead far away into a brighter day, maybe somewhere by the sea
Somewhere far away from me, And this town
One day in May there’s a parade
God Bless America gets played
We take our pictures then turn to go inside
To find somewhere we can hide
From these crimes
And when the world puts out a call
There’s no one standing here at all
We’re a people lost, afraid, along for the ride
Carried away on the tide
Of these times.
But you don’t belong to anyone, not any small town son, not least of all to me
All your roads lead far away, into a brighter day, maybe somewhere by the sea
Somewhere far away from me, and this town
The train don’t run here anymore
Not since back before this war
And all the street lamps in the world can’t shine a light
Bright enough to quiet
All this dark
You don't come round here no more
So I don't know what I'm asking for
I need to shake off this sleep and turn to fight
So everyone'll have the right to make their mark
That's what I'm asking for
You are what I'm asking for
You are what I'm asking for
Oh, America, I'm asking for you

No Turning Back
04:07
|
|||
It ain’t easy - it’s really hard as hell
To say these things and look you in the eye
Do you see me? Do you think you know me well?
Well I hope you understand these tears I cry
If only I had known it;
If only you had shown that you’d been
Swept away (swept away)
Wrapped up in passing promises;
Wrapped up without a thought for this
Impending day (this day)
Lately can you feel me
I’m slipping past your glances
And wasting second chances
You can hate me or you can heal me
But either way I’m picking up my slack
No turning back
Lover dearest, I swear that I have tried
To offer you my sweetest harmony
Can you hear it if you only close your eyes?
Our serenade has drifted out of key
So I’m drowning out the call
In case it drags me back
To all my wasted yesterdays (yesterdays)
Let’s take a deeper breath
And understand that we are left
With nothing more to say (more to say)
Lately can you feel me
I’m slipping past your glances
And wasting second chances
You can hate me or you can heal me
But either way I’m picking up my slack
No turning back
We are drifting apart
Only time can mend the broken heart
Well I guess that's a start
Lately can you feel me
I’m slipping past your glances
And wasting second chances
You can hate me or you can heal me
But either way I’m picking up my slack
It’s not the love, it’s evidence we lack
I guess it’s time to hit that lonesome track
No turning back

Couldn't Get it Right
03:28
|
|||
I feel the weather changing
And it’s not so hot
I can feel the earth turning
That’s all we’ve got
The moon slips behind a cloud
And it’s not so bright
Don’t know just how I feel
But I miss you tonight
But I couldn’t get it right
Maybe you feel as I do
Wondering what could be
Maybe you’re looking up
Maybe Thinking about me
You see the same bright moon
Stuck behind the clouds
But I know when you think of me
I’m just a face in the crowd
Because I couldn’t get it right
I know you’ve got your boy
And that’s alright
I hope you got the home you wanted
And he holds you tight
Yellow on the maple
Red on the oak
Just know I’m thinking of you
Through the Fall’s woodsmoke
Moon hides behind it’s cloud
And I’ll do the same
And I’m just so very sorry
You’ll forget my name
Because I couldn’t get it right
I just couldn’t get it right
No I couldn’t get it right

Waltz Away
04:10
|
|||
In the shadow in the valley all the steel mills are closed
No cranes lift no third shift no bells ring out loud
And the houses on the hillside sit empty and foreclosed
While the men sway to the same song with heads low and bowed.
Waltz away, waltz away
There’s no place for you to stay
All the fires have gone cold here in
Western PA
Maybe on one summer day
The blue hearts will have their say
But till then hold you tears in
just turn and waltz away
In the shadow in the valley we kept looking to come back
Gave our coin up to the con-men who told us that it would
Men debated while we waited, our heart upon the wrack
In the end nothing to bend so we sang the best we could
Concrete and barbed wire keep on getting in the way
Of the people that we are and the ones we want to be
For too many years we’ve been turning folks away
With a song and a smile that says nothing comes for free
Till then, hold your tears and turn and waltz away
